Marko Marjanovic, a well-known tweeter who goes by the nickname Crystal Matt Damon, has asked to be taken down measures to ban the use of social networks as well as attending public gatherings.
Otherwise, from August 1, he will "take his destiny into his own hands", wrote Marjanović in a statement sent to the media.
Arrested several times
Marjanović has been harshly criticizing the government of the Serbian Progressive Party on Twitter for years, and during this wave of protests he was detained several times.
The measures were imposed on him when he published the phone numbers of some politicians and RTS journalists on the social network, and they, as they claim, received numerous threats. In addition to the aforementioned prohibitions, Marjanović must report to the police twice a month.
In a statement, Marjanović states that "he was actually put in a digital prison because of his satirical and critical posts on social networks."
"Until today, I have complied with all measures. During that time, my lawyer was denied the right to inspect the file and obtain any information about what the prosecution charges against me," the statement reads.
Even the courts do not rule on urgent requests. "This clearly tells a reasonable person that the courts in Serbia do not function until angry citizens appear in front of their doors," writes Marković.
Calls for disobedience
As he states, the "shameful measures" make it difficult for him to function in society and perform the work that supports his family. "The government will pay for this mistreatment. And the campaign against them will be financed from that money."
"Our freakish legal system shows once again that it does not serve law and justice, but only serves the mafia in power to implement what they need to keep that damned power," he added.
It was not stated what exactly Marjanović intends to do from August 1, until when he gave the authorities a deadline to cancel the measures or inform him what is happening with his case.
"Today me, tomorrow you. This is political repression. Fortunately, we are not powerless. That is why - I call on all free people in this country to civil solidarity, open disobedience and public rejection of fear," the statement concluded.
