In an attack in Banjska in the north of Kosovo on September 24, 2023, an armed group of Serbs attacked the police and killed police officer Afrim Bunjaku. Three Serb attackers were also killed in the exchange of fire.
Milan Radoičić, a former politician and businessman from northern Kosovo, who is believed to be in Serbia, claimed responsibility for the attack.
The investigation into the attack in Banjska is being conducted by Kosovo and Serbian judicial authorities, but so far only Kosovo has filed an indictment.
There are three people in custody in Kosovo who were arrested during the attack in Banjska.
RFE's sources in the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo stated in mid-July that the preparation of the indictment is in the final phase, and that "the investigation in the case of Radoičić will receive a final epilogue." They also stated that the indictment is not expected before autumn.
An international Interpol warrant was issued for Radoičić at the request of Kosovo through the United Nations Mission (UNMIK).

Stefanović: The indictment has no significance for Serbia
The chief public prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) in Belgrade, Nenad Stefanović, pointed out that from the point of view of the legal order of Serbia, the indictment of the temporary institutions in Pristina against Milan Radoičić and others has no significance.
Stefanović reminded that the territorial integrity of Serbia as part of Kosovo and Metohija is guaranteed by Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and pointed out that the temporary institutions in Pristina do not have any authority to conduct any proceedings, not even criminal ones, writes RTS.
Stefanović pointed out that Radoičić is being investigated by the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade due to the suspicion that he, together with several unknown persons, committed three criminal acts - association for the purpose of committing criminal acts, illegal production, possession, carrying and trafficking of firearms and explosive substances and serious acts against general security.
"As part of the investigation, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, through the Ministry of Justice, approached EULEX and requested that it be provided with complete documentation concerning the critical event of September 24, 2023 in the town of Banjska," Stefanović said and emphasized that the documentation by the time the prosecution of Kosovo raised the indictment, it was not delivered to VJT, nor was there any response from EULEX.
