The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that with today's formation of the Strategic Council for Cooperation, a "historic step forward" was made in the relations with Hungary and that the relations between the two countries are at a historical maximum.
Vučić explained that for the first time, in addition to economic agreements, agreements in the field of defense and security were also signed, and it is planned to continue and deepen this cooperation.
Something unseen in Europe
"Hungary is a member of NATO, and Serbia is militarily neutral. Hungary is a member of the European Union, and Serbia is not, but we are developing the best relations and we have come so far that we can cooperate even in such a terribly difficult area. It is a huge strategic step forward," stated Vučić.
He also said that at the Council session, the idea came up to create "something unprecedented in Europe", not to wait at the border of the two countries at Horgoš and to expand the Kelebija crossing for freight traffic, as well as to work on the Bački Breg crossing. Vučić emphasized that there is true trust between the two countries.
Whatever happens, the President of Serbia knows that the Hungarians will be with us and show respect for our Serbian friends, that they will support Serbia's European path with all its decision to "protect its independence" (which the European Parliament and the European Commission and many member state governments lately due to the lack of democracy, freedom of the media and similar basic European values have been called into question), and Serbian friends will be loyal and sincere.
Vučić also said that "many good things" will result from the 12 agreements signed today for the citizens of both Hungary and Serbia.
Thirty-second meeting
And Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán retorted "that in politics, friendship and alliance can only be achieved through hard work", and this is the 32nd meeting between him and Vučić.
So he assessed that the differences between the two countries - one is in the EU, the other is not, one is in NATO, the other is not, one is Catholic, the other is Orthodox - do not make cooperation more difficult, but improve it.
The Hungarian Prime Minister did not say that, despite all the differences, the two countries' extraction system connects his, Orban's, and Vučić's, which is disputed in most EU countries and European institutions.
But he said that Serbia is the key country of the Western Balkans, and Hungary is the gateway to Europe, and that he thinks that the two countries have a "good future".
The President of Hungary, Katalin Novak, and the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, were also present, who spoke in a similar tone of friendship, appreciation and understanding.
