"The streets in Zagreb that are named after the Ustashas should be renamed, that's a question of civilization." It is not normal that there are still streets in the capital that bear the names of Ustasha", said Mayor Tomislav Tomašević, commenting on the proposed street renaming at a press conference.
Namely, the City Assembly of Zagreb recently received a proposal to change the names of four streets in the area of Ivanje Reka: Filip Lukas, Vladimir Ark, Antun Bonifačić and Archbishop Ivan Šarić.
The mayor of Zagreb announced that he would accept that proposal.
In December of last year, on the occasion of marking thirty-one years since the murder of the Zec family in Zagreb, Tomašević announced that the city would erect a memorial plaque as a reminder of the crime committed.
"Thirty-one years after the crime, which is one of the darkest episodes in the history of this city, I stand here to pay tribute to the victims and to once again warn about what happened here," said the mayor.
He reminded that the perpetrators of the crime were not held accountable for the murders, although their names are known.
