Four men of Serbian nationality arrested were late last night at northern part of Mitrovica, as the police say, for insulting and attacking two policemen, he announced KoSSev.
They also claim that the three were under the influence of alcohol, and that they were unable to make a statement last night.
Videos of this arrest have been circulating on the internet since last night, and some citizens claim that these young men were beaten before and during the arrest.
The police deny this, but emphasize that they have the right to use force if the person subject to arrest resists or flees.
The incident happened around an hour after midnight.
The young men allegedly insulted and then attacked two policemen on the city's promenade, Petrit Feyza from the KP of the North region told KoSS, after which they left.
One of the policemen, they claim, sustained bodily injuries.
According to the information of the KoSSev portal, the police then searched for the young men around the city, and found and arrested them in Knjaza Miloša Street, which the police confirms.
The young men in question are RN (20), LK (19), VJ (21). and MM (19) and they were immediately taken to the police station, and before that, together with the injured policeman, for a medical examination.
Feyza says that there it was established that the three were under the influence of alcohol, and that they were detained for up to 48 hours.
"Since they were under the influence of alcohol, they could not make a statement last night." That's why they were detained, so their statements about this event will be taken today. After that, it will be decided what to do next," said Fejza.
In the following, he denied the allegations that the young men were beaten by the police, but:
"If someone arrested by the police resists or tries to escape, the police have the right to use force." And on those videos that appeared, it can be seen that no one is beating them, but that they are trying to prevent the police from arresting them."
The four young men are currently in the police station in South Mitrovica.
