After the terrorist attack in Bosanska Krupa in which a policeman was killed and another wounded, arrested is eight people.
"One person, initials KH, born in 1971 in Bosanska Krupa, currently residing in Bihać, was deprived of his liberty in Bihać. Seven persons were deprived of their liberty in Bosanska Krupa. These are the faces of the initials Š. H., MH, DM, BM, M.J., NR All persons were detained in the MUP detention facilities. A certain amount of weapons was found with them, central units, smartphones, laptops, portable computers, money, USB sticks, and a large amount of paper written in Arabic were confiscated", confirmed the MUP of the USK.
The level of security has been increased throughout the territory of the Federation of BiH.
"Unofficially, the motive is an attack on an institution, that is, the police station as an organ, with the aim of intimidating the population." In addition to this motive, it will also be checked whether the minor was incited and whether there are any extreme groups behind him," said the chief prosecutor of the canton, Merima Mešanović.
An act of terrorism
The Prosecutor's Office in BiH characterized the attack on the police station in Bosanska Krupa, in which one policeman was killed and another injured, as an act of terrorism. There are a large number of police officers on the streets of Bosanska Krupa this morning, members of the Special Unit, uniformed police, and MUP inspectors are on the ground.
The arrested 15-year-old assailant entered the police station and first attacked the shift leader Ognjen Maran with a cold weapon, who immediately succumbed to his injuries.
The attacker then attacked police officer Avda Hasanović, who underwent surgery last night and is now out of danger.
"The prosecutor's office stated that in the described event there are elements of a criminal offense from Article 201 of the FBiH Criminal Code, that is, 'terrorism'. The investigation is still going on in order to determine the cause and motive," said Adnan Beganović, spokesman for the MUP of the Una-Sana Canton.
Previous terrorist attacks on the police
Terrorist attacks on the police in Bosnia and Herzegovina have happened before.
Thus, in June 2010, a police station was attacked in Bugojno, in central Bosnia. In this attack, a policeman was killed, a policewoman was seriously wounded, and five policemen were slightly injured.
Material damage in the amount of around 250.000 euros was caused to the Police Station building on that occasion, while significant damage was also caused to surrounding buildings and vehicles.
An attack on the police was also recorded in Zvornik, when in April 2015 a 24-year-old man killed one and wounded two policemen, after which he was killed.
A car bomb attack in front of the police department was also carried out in 1997 in Mostar, in the western part of the city where the majority of the population is Croatian.
29 people were seriously and lightly injured, including three policemen. Ahmed Zuhaira aka Handala, a citizen of Sudan, and his assistants were convicted in absentia for the attack. This attack is marked as the first terrorist attack in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
