Part of Zoran Đinđić Boulevard, at the height of number 12a, is blocked, because the residents of this part of New Belgrade are protesting because of the unprofessional and unnecessary expansion of that road.
They say that the pedestrian crossing near the school was removed, then moved, and that the safety of the children is endangered because drivers cannot see them.
They pointed out that the additional expansion of lanes and parking lots is damaging the green area and space for pedestrians.
One of the tenants, Dragomir Leko, told N1 that blocks 21 and 22 are very densely populated and have a clear circulation of pedestrians, from kindergartens, schools, day care centers, and gymnasiums. He assessed that everything worked as long as there were pedestrian crossings that have natural communication through the passages in the block.
"Then came the Zoran Đinđić Boulevard expansion project, which expands from two traffic lanes to three in each direction, and with the parking lanes, there will be eight lanes that children have to cross. They removed pedestrian crossings, dug up the street, and did not provide a safe crossing for pedestrians. They are fixing it now, but there are still no police officers lying down on the street and the layout of pedestrian crossings is completely meaningless," said Leko.
He adds that some pedestrian crossings are inaccessible for people with disabilities, so he considers the whole Zoran Đinđić Boulevard extension project very dangerous for safety.
The tenants appealed to all competent institutions, but they did not receive an answer.
