Discovery of Vidosave Kovačević

There are not many painters who had such a large and important oeuvre and lived such a short life like Vidosava Kovačević. If it weren't for Pavle Beljanski, it is possible that she would not even be known about

Confessional for the relief of spirit and body

If the work "Confession" is located in a church, then it becomes applied art, in the sense that someone just redesigned the confessional. If the work is transferred to the gallery, then it becomes a sculpture. However, even in the gallery, people wanted to sit and talk to each other through those holes, to actually use the sculpture in a traditional way. There were lines to enter the "Confession"

People, animals and other troubles

Hunting is necessarily political because hunters demonstrate their position of power vis-à-vis other species. It is no coincidence that even today many powerful political figures are avid hunters. When I think now about the human relationship to any non-human entity, I automatically see a political battleground. It is a small step between ecology, bioethics and politics

Crucified in the duality of art

"When I was younger, I had fear, doubt, whether what I was doing was art or craft. Today, at this age, I no longer worry about it. Today, I am much more honest with myself; what comes out of my stomach, what makes me happy, is what I stand behind. Let others judge"

The immortality of the “Mona Lisa”

Working on this painting, Leonardo invents a new artistic genre. Showing the eyes and lips of a Florentine merchant's wife, he paints her inner life. We look at the surface, but he shows us the inside; we look at the painted skin, it presents us with a portrait of the soul

It's important to take yourself seriously

Snežana Mijić is a painter, conservator at the "Gallery of Matica srpska", currently studying for a doctorate in applied art and design at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. The immediate reason for our conversation is her exhibition "About the most beautiful pigs", in the Cultural Center "Laza Kostić" in Sombor. Curator Iva Leković writes in the catalog: "Snežana Mijić's Zoopraxiscope starts from a simple idea that multiplies in several directions of interpretation. Taking the motif of a pig from the photographic series of animals in motion by Edward Maybride, who can be considered a pioneer of multimedia and intermedial research, the author re-examines the relationship between traditional and new media, at the same time sketching the (always) current state of society."

Moral panic and the economics of (women's) health

Unlike the censorship that was carried out over this same project 11 years ago, at a time when the Academy did not have the necessary exhibition autonomy, this time different mechanisms are in force

Everything is a duel, every day

"Man can only change himself. Everything went astray and everything comes down to some personal worlds, personal formulas. Man can only change his micromicrocosm. In that field, you can act, surround yourself with people and things you love, that interest you"
