Bleiburg in the jaws of deception

Although the actual number is not known, according to Vladimir Žerjavić's reliable and careful estimates, around 50 thousand people were killed, mostly members of the NDH army, but also civilians who died in the column during the battles between the Ustasha and the partisans, as well as all those who were killed in revengeful anger after being captured.

"She succumbed to the old decadent temptation to invent herself as a lurid, unacknowledged and misunderstood poetess; mother of her children and wife of her husband; lover of a young ephebe; person of a fairy-tale past; bard of an army doomed to destruction; student and friend, passionate companion. From these (and other) 'pictures of personality', she created poetry, the great poetry of our time. But she had no control over herself, no power of self-knowledge (and nurtured (that's ignorance). She was helpless, carefree and unhappy, surrounded by the 'nest' and alone, finding herself and getting lost, and making endless mistakes."
