The Rothschild dynasty began when Mayer Amchel Rothschild started a business in Frankfurt in the late 18th century. Mayer Amschel laid the foundations of the Rothschild Corporation when he sent his five sons to major European financial centers - Frankfurt, Vienna, Paris, Naples and London, where his third son, Nathan Mayer Rothschild, founded a bank in the City in 1811. In the chronicles of the family, in which it is difficult to distinguish myths from facts, it was recorded that Nathan Mayer Rothschild financially helped the British victory over Napoleon by buying British bonds believing that Napoleon to lose, and Wellington, with whom he had done business before, to win. He also gave a loan to the British government for the Suez Canal. The Rothschilds operate in numerous European countries. They are now looking to consolidate their businesses in France and Britain.
An important year in the history of the Rockefeller dynasty is 1870, when John Davison Rockefeller founded Standard Oil Company which as a multinational corporation dominated the oil industry until 1911. John Rockefeller was the first American to have more than a billion dollars.
