After two months and four days, National Theatre begins work on December 7.
On that occasion, the actors announced a warning strike because their demands were not met: the article prohibiting the public expression of a political position has not yet been removed from the Rulebook on disciplinary responsibility adopted by the new Administration, neither the Administration nor the Board of Directors have been replaced, and Nikola Selaković is still the Minister of Culture.
Darko Tomovic, the president of the actors' union of the National Theater "Singlus", reminds "Vreme" that "a warning strike with these same demands was held on October 3, which is why the Management, in order not to silence us, closed the entire theater."
The new warning strike will be held in the theater building "as required by law," and will begin at 21 p.m. "at the time when the performance on the Big Stage ends."
"We will be there during the presentation and when the audience leaves the auditorium. We will repeat our demands to the attendees again. We have no other legal option than a strike, because the Administration behaves as if these demands do not exist and does not respond to our letters. And even when it answers, those sentences are just dysfunctional autistic platitudes that are uttered when someone is at the end, and so is this Administration," says Darko Tomović.
Is the building safe?
The building of the National Theater was closed in order to solve the deficiencies related to fire protection.
The management of the National Theater informed the audience that it was resuming operations on December 7, but did not say a single word that the building was now safe. It is not even known what was repaired or newly done during these two months, in order to make staying in the building safe from fire. Nor how much it cost. And where did the Ministry of Culture suddenly get the money for that, when this summer, when the former Administration asked for money for certification of fire extinguishers, there was none.
During the previous two months, in the National Theater building, employees did not see any work that would require the building to be closed.
