Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac and the President of the High Prosecutor's Council Branko Stamenković met with the Head of the Delegation Of the European Union in Serbia, Andreas von Beckerat and members of his delegation, in order to familiarize them with the current situation in the Public Prosecutor's Office of Serbia.
Dolovac and Stamenković informed the interlocutors about possible changes to the legal framework that prescribes the organization, way of working and powers public prosecutor's office, as well as with the upcoming elections for High Prosecution Council and the consequences that arose after the unsuccessful election of 88 public prosecutors in November of this year, and in light of the fulfillment of the obligations that Serbia assumed during the process of joining the European Union, which concern the public prosecution and the judiciary, according to the announcement of VJT.
The conversation discussed the obligations that the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office and the High Council of Prosecutors have in the process of joining, especially within the framework of negotiation chapters 23 and 24, and the ways in which the obstacles encountered by these two institutions in fulfilling them can be removed.
The Supreme Public Prosecutor and the President of the High Prosecution Council pointed to the campaign of attempts to exert undue influence on the holders of public prosecutor's offices in Serbia, which is present every day and significantly stronger in intensity, as well as cases of attempts at intimidation and attacks on public prosecutors.
It is a common assessment that the situation in the public prosecution and the judiciary of our country should be carefully monitored and evaluated in relation to the criteria, criteria and activities that Serbia undertook as an obligation in the process of joining the European Union within the framework of negotiation chapters 23 and 24, which establish the necessity of the rule of law, the independence of the public prosecution and the independence of the judiciary, according to the statement.
