Percentage children among the victims human trafficking, one of the most serious forms of organized crime, was 49 percent last year, said Minister for Family Care and Demography Jelena Žarić Kovačević.
She pointed out that children are most often exploited through forced begging, committing criminal acts, sexually, at work and through forced marriages.
She stressed that Serbia, as a signatory to key international instruments, actively participates in regional and global initiatives in the fight against this negative social phenomenon, the solution of which requires a comprehensive and coordinated approach to prevention, protection and punishment.
Particularly vulnerable categories include women, children, migrants, persons with certain intellectual and mental disabilities, persons at risk of poverty, with a lower level of education.
"The percentage of children among the identified victims of human trafficking in 2024 was very high and amounted to 49 percent," said Žarić Kovačević.
She warned that human trafficking leaves serious consequences for the personality of victims, especially children.
