An orchestrated and manipulative strategy to block RTS was carried out with false information that "Vreme" called for an end to the blockade, but also that the entire editorial staff of Euronews did a similar thing.
No one asked the journalists from Euronews Serbia whether they agree to announce on behalf of the media where they work that they are calling on the authorities to enable work RTS. They distanced themselves from the inappropriate wording used in the text, namely the mention of camps and ghettos to which public service workers were allegedly exposed.
The statement, which was sent to the public under the name of Euronews Serbia, talks about alleged "torture", "camps", "persecution" and "street justice" in connection with civil protests in front of RTS.
"For more than 70 hours, our colleagues from the Radio Television of Serbia have been working in the ghetto and living on warrants. For more than 70 hours, they cannot go to work, they cannot report, all their rights have been revoked, they have been expelled from public space and lynched on social media," the statement added.
Nevertheless, a group of journalists dissociated themselves from the announcement that was published without the signature of the editorial office or the management of the house, as they say, the consent and knowledge of the editorial office.
"Journalists cultivate the culture and ethics of public speech, do not use hate speech, aggressive rhetoric or rhetoric that can encourage discrimination or aggressive behavior.
We are here to report, not to call for the police or other state authorities to react against someone, especially in a case where such a reaction would probably result in violence.
At the same time, we emphasize that we believe that it is time for the profession to return to itself and for the media to be regulated in accordance with professional standards, laws and the Code of Journalists of Serbia", they add.
Pay attention to ethics.
They also remind that a journalist must not be punished for refusing to carry out an order that would violate the legal and ethical rules of the journalistic profession.
NUNS say that it is now clear that the responsibility for this type of politically motivated text lies solely with the editorial staff of Euronews, which has been implementing an editorial turnaround for a long time, which is obvious to both the public and the profession. NUNS warns that employees in that newsroom have been complaining about internal pressures, censorship and unprofessional demands for months, which is why some journalists left the newsroom precisely because of the collapse of professional standards, and the latest announcement represents the culmination of that process.
