When choosing a university, one of the main motives for freshmen is often a good salary. At the University of Belgrade, jobs that provide a salary of more than 5.000 euros bring future students to the amphitheatres of several faculties, among which information technology is the leading one.
The jobs that can be done after these faculties provide an average salary of around 1.500 euros, but also much more - depending on the company, experience and expertise of the employee. The average salary for an intern in IT companies, i.e. for a student who still does not have a diploma, is around 500 euros, and with a diploma, this figure increases over time.
However, apart from technical faculties, there are other educational institutions where the number of applications this year surprised even the biggest experts in higher education, the portal writes. Nova.rs.
The Faculty of Economics is the biggest surprise
This year, the faculties of the University of Belgrade were overshadowed by applications at the Faculty of Economics, where the crowds were unexpected.
In addition to Electrical, Mechanical, Construction, Economic, there is also Faculty of Organizational Sciences (FON), which are considered to be the most profitable.
"The greatest interest has been in the faculties of technical professions for years. There, IT is in the first place, that is, all faculties that have this major, as well as electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Diplomas from these faculties enable, first of all, quick employment, good work and earnings. Outside of the sector of technical faculties, among semi-social and semi-technical, FON is certainly the most profitable and the most sought-after," says Miloš Turinski from the company Infostud.
The faculty that is a real surprise this year, he says, is - Economics.
"Students of FON do very well on the labor market, because the degree of that faculty does not imply a single profession that graduates can pursue." Various management courses are available to them, including one with an IT focus. They are the most sought after, they are easily employed in good jobs. We must also mention the Faculty of Economics, which this year attracted a large number of candidates and recorded a record number of applications, which there were not many years ago. There were as many as 1.700 applications for slightly less than 1.000 places", says Turinski.
The easiest way to get hired
Statistics show that economics graduates are the easiest to get a job in the last few years.
"They get their first job in the profession already in the first six months after obtaining the diploma", emphasizes our interlocutor. Jobs provided by the aforementioned faculties bring earnings of 600, 700, 800 euros for beginners, and up to over 5.000 euros for seniors.
"For the first employment, starting salaries are expected, which are between 500 and 1.000 euros. Of course, these are not the full earnings that young experts can earn later when they prove themselves at work and gain work experience. Even for "Ajtijevci" the first salary rarely exceeds 700 euros, but they, like mechanical engineers and programmers, can earn several thousand euros a month. In the IT world, at least on our site, among senior calls, the salary for software architects is far above the Serbian average and goes up to 5.000 euros and more. For a software architect, however, years of experience are needed, so this job cannot be done by those who have just graduated from college," explains Turinski.
The competition is less this year because 2.000 fewer freshmen were enrolled in the faculties than last year.
"Interest in IT faculties has decreased compared to previous years. Now there were 1,3 students for one free place according to quotas, which is still a high demand, but reduced compared to the earlier period when it was 1,6. There were 2.000 fewer candidates for college admissions than in previous years, and we can observe this through the prism of demographics, but also the crisis that has hit IT in the last two years, which may have influenced the candidates' decisions," Turinski believes.
Average salary 2.000
When it comes to salary, junior programmers earn on average around 850 euros, while their more experienced colleagues can earn up to 1400 euros per month. The average salary of a hardware engineer is around 2000, and a database administrator can earn an average of 1400 euros.
Those who complete FON and obtain the title of graduate engineer in organizational sciences can earn more than 2000 euros per month. Financial managers earn around 850 to 2000 euros per month, while quality managers can earn from 700 to 2200 euros. A marketing manager can earn between 630 and 1850 euros, and a public relations manager between 470 and 1300.
