Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Serbia sent on Tuesday (September 16) a notification to all local governments about their obligations in implementing the Regulation on measures to control and destroy the ragweed weed plant, ordering its removal and destruction.
Local self-governments are obliged to immediately upon receiving information about attendance ambrosia in their territory, notify the owners and users of the land in writing and order them to destroy that harmful plant within 15 days of receiving the notification.
In cases of non-compliance, the communal services are obliged to immediately notify the phytosanitary inspection, which issues decisions on the mandatory and urgent destruction of the ambrosia weed plant, and if even then it is not acted upon in accordance with the decision, the procedure is carried out by an authorized person at the expense of unscrupulous subjects, the announcement stated.
The information about the sent letter was also delivered to the heads of the districts, who as coordinators will monitor and support the work of local self-governments in the implementation of those measures, the Ministry announced.
Ambrosia is one of the most widespread and dangerous weeds in Serbia - it causes enormous damage to agricultural production and causes serious health problems for the population, especially during the flowering period from July to September.
As part of "Eco-patrol", a project of the City Municipality of Novi Beograd, ambrosia was already removed today in Gandijeva Street in Block 64, the Municipality of Novi Beograd announced.
Never more allergic to ragweed
Ragweed allergy sufferers are facing a big problem in recent weeks - the pollen concentration of this plant in the air records record values.
In the first week of September, the highest daily concentrations of ambrosia pollen were recorded in Belgrade since the monitoring was carried out, which is 992 pollen grains per cubic meter of air.
"On Thursday, September 4, 992 pollen grains per cubic meter of air were measured in Belgrade. These are the highest daily concentrations of ragweed pollen in the capital since we have been conducting this monitoring, and we started 23 years ago," Mirjana Mitrović, head of the group for allergen pollen monitoring of the Environmental Protection Agency, told Tanjug.
