By far the largest part of the family budget in Serbia is spent on food and non-alcoholic beverages, according to the data from the Household Consumption Survey for 2022 published by the Republic Institute of Statistics. Also, this survey showed that 10 percent of households spend 30.346 dinars per month, or about 250 euros.
The average monthly income of households in Serbia last year was 78.393 dinars.
According to the data of the Republic Institute of Statistics, the average household consisting of 2,67 members spent 78.678 dinars per month, which is 6.776 dinars (9,4 percent) more than the previous year, in 2021.
By far the largest part of the family budget is spent on food and soft drinks - 28.246 dinars or 36 percent, which is almost two percentage points more than in 2021 and 2019.
On the other hand, it reduced the share of spending on clothing and footwear from 5,2 to 4,9 percent. In fact, the share of all other segments decreased in household consumption.
High food price inflation over the past year has affected all households, but an analysis of household consumption shows that the poorest are most affected.
According to the 2022 census, there are 2.589.344 households in Serbia. The personal consumption of 10 percent of households with the lowest consumption amounted to only 30.346 dinars per month. Of that, 14.201 dinars were spent on food, which is as much as 46,7 percent. The poorest spent only 1,9 percent or 576 dinars per month on clothes and shoes.
The average net salary from October last year was 75.353 dinars. Median net salary, of which half of the employees receive less, amounted to 57.810 dinars.
This means that a little less than a million households last year spent up to one average salary per month or 57.810 dinars, and about 1,35 million households lived on a maximum of one average salary per month.
The largest part of income, about half, is made up of earnings from regular employment, while about one third (32,1 percent) is made up of pensions.
The rest is income from agriculture, outside of regular employment, and it is interesting that the average household received 807 dinars from abroad.
