In its musical non-alignment, Serbia consistently follows the tradition of the SFRY, because during the Cold War, only Yugoslavia and Finland participated in the festival that brought together the Eastern Bloc.
So, on film, we shot Vinetu from the GDR, as well as Hollywood co-productions.
This year's Intervision brought together, in addition to Russians, Belarusians, representatives of China, India, Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela, Qatar, Vietnam, Serbia, Emirates, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, in short, the entire justice-loving part of humanity, as Milosevic said.
A curiosity is the announcement of the representative of the USA, for whom an Australian woman of Greek origin sang, but who ultimately did not perform and thereby caused a kind of diversion. According to the organizers and Sergey Lavrov, who was present, there was diplomatic pressure on the representatives from the USA not to perform.
The show was organized in the Moscow Arena, and the winner was the singer from Vietnam, Duc Puc, with a song Dong Tien Wong; the boy sings well, but I have no idea what he's talking about.
The host quartet also looked unusual, as it consisted of a girl from one of the Caucasian republics (she spoke Russian), an Indian woman who spoke English, a boy from China, in Chinese, and a host from Russia in Russian. The messages also sounded like Chinese fortune cookies, full of commonplaces, nurturing "a thousand flowers" without interaction or spontaneity.
President Putin's message was also read, emphasizing "respect for traditional values and the diversity of cultures".
In fact, one could see the intention to deprive the music competition of the votes of the audience, especially the LGBT audience, because the decision on the winner is made by the jury, whose credibility we cannot really determine. Actually, we cannot determine who delegated our representative Slobodan Trkulja with the song "Three Roses", who is quite famous in the "collective East", because he had successful tours with his band Balkanopolis. The broadcast was not even announced in Serbia, because it was broadcast on Telekom's channel Toksik. The atmosphere was slightly spoiled by the bad synchronization of the image and tone, so the singers and presenters were late like the characters from Bruce Lee's movies when they are spoken to in English.
I don't even know our member of the jury, a certain "Mirko" who wore a cap and was signed as "producer". I managed to find him as a film producer People of Christ - our time which speaks of a worldwide conspiracy against Orthodoxy. I admit that I had a fantasy of how the inclusion from Belgrade would be with the votes of our jury, so instead of Kosjerina, Ms. Ljubinka from Sputnik would be included and give our 12 points. Unfortunately, none of that, we finished somewhere in the middle (14), and next year the competition will be in the Emirates.
The whole impression of the multi-hour program is its appropriateness, because it reminded us, older viewers, of that television genre from the SFRY era that included politics, optimism, political messages for domestic and foreign audiences, with the appearance of entertainment. It's a musical parade similar to a military parade or landing, where you show how beautiful people live in all countries, how beautiful their costumes are and how beautifully they dance and sing. This phenomenon was dealt with in a documentary film about the performance of the group Laibach in North Korea. The presenters and presenters are also beautiful, a message from a politician is always read, everyone sings in their own language, smiles and doesn't understand. We are all non-aligned and neutral, we are all there just to have fun, something like Minister Demo Beriša at Seselj's party in Hrtkovci at the self-proclaimed and parastatal celebration of the Day of Serbian Unity. The message is more than clear and frighteningly reminiscent of the clash of civilizations that runs through Orwell's 1984. It is a clash of civilizations on several continents that shows that today redistribution is definitely taking place on this level as well. If someone, like on Pink, started to mention the ratings and shares of this broadcast, which ended up on TV Toksik here, we would understand that this show was potentially watched by several billion people on the planet.
For now, it seems to me that we are geographically on "this side of the curtain", but it is uncertain whether this will be the case in the political sphere. For now, we intend to sing for both Tito and Draža, which is what the great entertainer from Ibarska magistral Andrija Era Ojdanić would say.
In the end, what is the fate of Intervision, that is, this reincarnation of it. If it is deprived of Russian dominance, it is possible that the economies of China, India or other participating countries will quickly catch up to their role models and begin to match them. Today, we no longer make fun of cars, mobile phones and other products from the East. However, quality artistic creation requires freedom, which sometimes means confrontation with any kind of establishment, political, religious or artistic. Art does not tolerate borders, and Intervision has them, they are not geographical but political.
