Dejan Vuk Stanković, a man who is openly against student protests and university professors, but he was still elected as the Minister of Education, on his first day at his new post he was faced with a revolt by employees in his own sector.
At 7 o'clock in the morning in front of the building of the Ministry of Education, a protest of educational workers gathered around began The rebel university and PULS of primary and secondary schools under the name "Welcome Whistle". Educators are protesting the election of a new minister, and as they stated, they will not prevent him from entering the ministry. They were joined by students and employees of preschool institutions.
Many of them carry banners with inscriptions that they are against - "insulting", "manipulation, "repression", "disrespect", and on the other side they have placed the values they stand for - "integrity", "image", "conscience", "competence".
Traffic in one lane in Nemanja Street towards Slavija is blocked, and the protest is secured by the traffic police.
This is war.
Associate professor at FPN Dejan Pavlović tells N1 that there are many reasons for the protest, and that the publication of the list of all ministers, including the Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stanković, "sent a clear message."
"Here, we have come to say what we have," he said.
"This is war, like when you poison the enemy's wells and land, to starve them. That is not allowed even in war," he says, adding that because they did not receive two months' salary, some professors cannot pay their rent, all of them have canceled their vacations, and "these are educated people, who know there is no going back."
Numerous testimonials for sexual harassment
Those gathered wear blue ribbons, which is a symbol of the month of April and the fight against sexual harassment. As the new minister has gained a reputation in society as someone who made inappropriate comments with strong sexual connotations to female students, the month of sexual violence awareness will also be marked in silence at the protest.
"Mr. Dejan Vuk Stanković gave me a seven on the written exam, told me 'colleagues turn around' and gave me a nine".
"On one occasion, he offered me a ride home, openly saying that he wasn't going that way, but that he would be happy to go for a ride with me."
"(…) In the end we left the classroom and then he said he would take me to lunch".
These are just some of the comments of female students after Vuk Stanković was elected Minister of Economy, and dozens of anonymous testimonies were published on the Instagram page of the "OsnaZene" Association.
