Concerned citizens are posting photos on social networks these days snake which move freely through the streets, including locations such as Petlovo and Labudovo brdo and Vojvoda Vlahovića Street, where there is a kindergarten nearby, which is why citizens are urged to be careful.
But why are there so many snakes in the middle of nowhere? Belgrade?
Snakes seek stable temperatures of 24 to 28 degrees. As habitats, they choose places where there are rays of the Sun in order to raise them temperature, as well as the shade to lower it. The streets of a big city are not a bad choice for snakes at all.
Heat and summer awaken snakes from hiding
Although the phenomenon is disturbing for citizens who are not used to the presence of snakes on the streets of Belgrade, experts say that the public should be informed about these reptiles.
Branislav Jakovljević from the Public Aquarium and Tropicarium in Belgrade explained that snakes are part of the natural ecosystem and that you should not be afraid of them, "Mondo" reports.
"Snakes are an integral part of our life. They are our compatriots and they live there. Let me remind you, we built our houses on their houses and chased them away, and sometimes they come back," said Jakovljević.
He says that snakes are timid by nature and have no intention of attacking a person, which is why they react defensively in the face of him, trying to intimidate, but mostly run away.
They appeared in large numbers, because by nature they are activated as soon as the temperature rises.
As temperatures these days reach over 30 degrees, it is not unusual that they can be found on the streets.
It is advised not to react violently when encountering a snake - you should move away from it and call the competent services such as the Institute for Nature Protection or the animal hygiene service of Veterina Belgrade.
