Serbian Bar Association (AKS) officially begins work on Wednesday, March 5, was decided at the session of the Bar Association of Serbia, confirmed for "Vreme" the president of AKS Veljko Delibašić.
March 4 is the last day of the strike, and it is still unknown what the lawyers' next steps are and whether they will continue with the work stoppage.
The proposal of the Bar Association of Vojvodina to continue the strike is also in circulation.
"That proposal should be decided by the Assembly of the Bar Association of Serbia, which should be scheduled." "Whatever decision the Parliament makes, the lawyers will implement it," asserts Delibašić.
The date of the AKS Assembly session is still unknown, and Delibašić says he has unofficial information that the Assembly will take place March 14.
Why are lawyers on strike?
Lawyers in Serbia made the decision to suspend work after the meeting of the Assembly and the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of Serbia.
The decision to suspend work was made because, as they say, none of the students' demands were met.
It is also added that "it is necessary to point out that the entire system of the highest judicial and prosecutorial instances does not exercise its constitutional rights and does not fulfill its legal obligations, acting ignorantly towards gross violations of citizens' rights."
A month earlier, before the one-month suspension of lawyers' work, lawyers in Serbia suspended their work from January 21 to 26 as a sign of support for students and their demands.
