After more than 18 hours, the constitutive session of the Assembly of Niš ended. On Tuesday at 4:31 in the morning, Dragoslav Pavlović became the mayor, writes "Južne vesti". 31 out of 61 councilors voted for him - those from the "Aleksandar Vučić - Niš sutra" list and the one disputed councilor from the Russian list. Representatives of the opposition abstained from voting.
After it was finally voted after heated debates around one o'clock after midnight, the new mayor read his exposé for over an hour and a half.
Former director of JKP Mediana, employed in EPS, Dragoslav Pavlović led the list of the coalition around SNS in the local elections on June 2. He was also the assistant to the mayor of Niš from July 2016, the president of the Women's Handball Club "Naisa" and member of the Board of Directors of the Handball Association of Serbia. This year, he was elected as a member of the SNS Board of Trustees in the municipality of Mediana. He has a degree in electrical engineering.
His deputy will be Luka Gašević, graduate in law, director of the Gerontological Center. The official of the Socialist Party of Serbia, Igor Novaković, was elected as the president of the City Assembly, the lawyer Vladica Maričić as the deputy president of the City Assembly, and Anđela Milojević as the secretary of the assembly.
The constitutive session of the Assembly of Niš will be remembered for its marathon duration and fierce debates between opposition councilors and Serbian Progressive Party councilors and their coalition partners.
The arguments that could be heard at the constitutive session were more or less the same as those that the Nis opposition has been repeating since Vučić's local offshoots declared victory - that Nišlje was grossly stolen, that the will of the people was changed. The epilogue was the same.
The Serbian Progressive Party has also patched up that hole in its absolute power at all levels.
