In an operation in the area of Subotica, Sombor and Kikinda on September 12, three automatic rifles, one semi-automatic rifle and a pistol were found, according to the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), and broadcast by Radio Free Europe.
One migrant was detained for a violation of the Law on Aliens, while in the area of Sombor four Serbian citizens were requested to initiate proceedings on suspicion of having committed the violation of assisting a foreign citizen in illegal stay.
The action was carried out after there was a confrontation with firearms in Subotica and its surroundings on September 8 and 11, in which, according to the police, two migrants were killed.

Assistant Police Director Dragan Vasiljević announced that "a number of members of the Gendarmerie" will be patrolling the Subotica area from September 13.
"Our goal is for migrants to be where they belong - in reception centers, for those who move to have legal documentation, and to reduce the number of conflicts between migrants to a minimum," said Vasiljević.
The action of arresting the migrants was also attended by the Minister of the Interior, Bratislav Gašić, who said that the state "will not allow anyone to abuse hospitality and endanger the safety of the citizens of Serbia."
The border zone between Serbia and Hungary has recently been a frequent place of conflict between smuggling groups. Residents from around Subotica said they were worried about their own safety.
