Although it was announced in September that Serbia will win long-term gas arrangement with Russia, in the months that followed there were changes, and until today there was no official information on the matter.
He is now the president of Serbia. Aleksandar Vučić declared that it was achieved agreement on gas supply to Serbia until March 31, 2026.
Thus, instead of the previously announced three-year arrangement, Serbia will receive a significantly shorter contract.
Nevertheless, the president said that citizens can be safe and sleep peacefully.
From three years to three months is a short journey
Just a few months earlier, in September of this year, after an hour and a half conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of the grandiose military parade in Beijing, Vučić said that Russian gas would arrive in Serbia under more favorable conditions in the next three years.
"Our desire is to receive 2,5 billion cubic meters of blue fuel per year with full flexibility, and that should secure us a new long-term contract with Moscow, the conclusion of which is expected at the end of the month," said Vučić at the time.
In the meantime, the United States tightened sanctions against Serbian companies that cooperate with the Russians, imposed full sanctions on NIS, and Serbia found itself on an unclear path as to what will happen next with energy companies.
Gazprom is negotiating with MOL on the sale of shares in NIS
Vučić, answering the journalists' questions, also said that it is true that Gazprom is negotiating the sale of its stake in NIS to the Hungarian MOL.
"We have information that they are talking, among other things, with the Hungarian MOL. We have nothing against it, the Hungarians are our friends, just let's finish it as soon as possible, by January 15," emphasized Vučić.
The president repeated that, even if there is no agreement on the sale of the Russian stake in NIS, Serbia will not resort to, as he said, "kidnapping". In that case, as he said, Serbia will be ready to overpay NIS.
