The Government of Serbia submitted to the Parliament of Serbia a report on the security situation in Serbia, which occurred after the mass murders at the "Vladislav Ribnikar" Elementary School in Belgrade and in the area of Smederevo and Mladenovac, and in the final assessment of that document it is stated that, although those events disturbed the public, public safety is stable.
Overall, as well as general crime, in the period January - April this year is four percent lower compared to the comparative period, it is added in the document that the Minister of Internal Affairs, Bratislav Gašić, should present to the members of the Serbian Parliament.
"After the events in the Belgrade elementary school, which caused anxiety among children, parents and the general public, minors mainly committed criminal acts related to threats to students and persons employed in schools," the document adds.
"Every third criminal offense involved these actions, which were carried out in direct communication or on social networks, student Viber groups." It is important to point out, however, that none of the threats were realized, and the police in these cases acted urgently and efficiently in cooperation with the prosecutor's offices," it added.
For its part, the MUP has undertaken a number of measures to improve the security protection of students and schools, as well as citizens. Increased measures and activities were ordered to engage the maximum number of police officers in staging areas near schools, with the intensification of the joint work of all police lines and the implementation of special actions to find weapons, tools and objects suitable for attacking students and school employees.
Police officers of general jurisdiction (12.368), traffic and criminal police, in the coming period will secure 1.832 schools, state and private, the document adds.
The document also states that in the past four gun legalizations, fewer weapons were handed in than in the five days of the current legalization. From 2016 to 2020, a total of 10.600 weapons were handed over, while in the five days of legalization, which began on May 8, around 11.500 weapons were handed over.
The Report also adds that the "Salus" action was established in the Belgrade area with the aim of stabilizing the security situation and restoring security to citizens. The aim and task of the action is to engage officers to prevent the commission of criminal acts against children and minors, as well as criminal acts committed by children and minors when coming to and from school.
The control of persons, objects and vehicles has been strengthened in order to find the perpetrators of criminal acts, as well as the inspection and search of objects where objects originating from criminal acts can be found.
Action "Salus" is carried out on the territory of Belgrade from May 8 from 22 a.m. to XNUMX p.m., and engaged police officers observe critical places in and around school buildings, identify suspicious persons, check suspicious vehicles and work to observe interesting phenomena, primarily related to crimes against life and limb, against public order and peace and narcotic drugs.
According to earlier announcements, this report should be discussed at the parliamentary session, which should be at the end of the week.
