Higher public prosecution (VJT) in Belgrade announced that it rejected the criminal complaint against the former head of the Police Administration for Belgrade Veselin Milić in the part in which he is charged with the crime of assisting the perpetrator after the crime has been committed, because there are no grounds for suspicion that the criminal offense for which he is being prosecuted ex officio has been committed.
The Prosecutor's Office stated that it continues to take evidentiary actions in connection with the part of the criminal report that charges him with the criminal offense of failure to report the criminal offense and the perpetrator.
What was rejected?
In the course of the investigation conducted for the criminal offense of aggravated murder against AN on May 12 in restaurant "27", the Prosecutor's Office determined from the collected evidence that there is no evidence indicating that the defendant helped the perpetrator, as well as that the factual description of the actions given in the criminal report regarding that criminal offense does not correspond to the facts established during the proceedings.
Based on surveillance cameras from the address of the residence of the injured AN and the suspect Milić, as well as the cameras of the "Kofi Dream" bar, base stations, and telephone forensics of the suspect's security personnel and the suspect's base stations, the analysis of the statements of the questioned witnesses, the suspect's defense and other evidence, it is indisputably and unequivocally established that he was not, nor could he be, in restaurant "27" when, as is reasonably suspected, the murder took place.
Continuation of the investigation
The Prosecution added that with regard to the criminal offense of failure to report the criminal offense and the perpetrator, evidentiary actions continue to be taken, because during the evidentiary actions taken so far, it was established that there are grounds for doubting that Milić had knowledge that a criminal offense had been committed and that, as an official, he failed to report it.
From the collected evidence, there are grounds for suspicion that on the night between May 12 and 13, the owner of the restaurant, the suspect NL, informed Milić by telephone about the event in the restaurant, where other guests were at that time, and that Milić, upon learning of the committed criminal acts that were being prosecuted ex officio, did not report it to the competent authorities, and he was obliged to do so.
The Prosecutor's Office stated that it undertook a series of evidentiary actions and ordered appropriate expert examinations in order to establish the aforementioned circumstances, and the further course of the proceedings will depend on the content of the submitted evidentiary material, noting that it will continue to inform the public in a timely manner about the course of the criminal proceedings.
