Students called for a boycott of online classes
"No degree is valuable if it is obtained by remaining silent in the face of injustice," was said at a student protest outside the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade.
After the ceiling collapsed in the recently renovated school in Rača, parents are wondering - do we have to wait for a tragedy for the state to react?
In the separate department Basic schools "Karađorđe" in Saranovo in the municipality of Rača fell ceiling in a classroom, and the students were sent home and there will be no classes in the school building, the School Administration confirmed to the Beta agency.
Classes will be held elsewhere from Wednesday.
Agency Beta learned from Rača whistleblower Tomislav Veljković that the reconstruction of the school building in Saranov was completed four months ago.
The ceiling fell with the entire structure during the Easter vacation, so when the teacher arrived at the school on Tuesday morning, the students were sent home due to the insecurity of the building.
The incident in Racha is just the latest that is happening in schools across Serbia.

Horror school in Kovin
Let us remind you that on the eve of the holidays, the students of the "Đura Jakšić" elementary school in Kovino stopped coming to class. Their parents decided that way, after they found out about the expert's assessment that the school is unsafe.
The municipal authorities are now asking for a new assessment, and the money they could use to reconstruct the school is being spent on the construction of an indoor swimming pool and the purchase of expensive phones for their employees.
It is the largest and oldest school in the municipality of Kovin, attended by 400 students. The tapes in front of the entrance have recently been warning about parts of the facade falling off. It's even worse inside. Pupils of the "Đura Jakšić" school see cracked walls and ceilings every day and use dilapidated toilets.
"It's terrible that a public institution can look like that, especially a school," says the mother of one student, Gordana Tomašević.
Under pressure from parents and the school, the local self-government called in a construction expert who assessed that the building is in bad condition and that the load-bearing capacity of parts of the structure is threatened due to large deformations and subsidence. Parents found out about that report through their own channels, because it was not published either on the school's website or on the municipality's website.
"Of course we can't be indifferent, we are all very worried and a little confused, because we don't know what to believe now," said one of the parents, Vladimir Smiljanić.
Because they do not know what to believe, a large number of parents have decided not to send their children to school.
Injured girls in Leskovac
In September of last year, part of the ceiling fell in the school in Leskovac and on that occasion injured two schoolgirls. After the incident, the girls were sent for examination in Nis, since the hospital in Leskovac did not have a child neurologist.
Part of the ceiling fell during recess.
This school does not have its own building, so for decades it has been using the premises of the Leskovac High School for teaching.
The director of the School of Economics in Leskovac, Biljana Đorđević, in which the slab fell, said then that one girl in the first year was slightly injured and that the other was scared, but that both were sent for an examination as a precaution.
The Leskovac hospital does not have a child neurologist, so the girls were sent to Nis for examination just in case.
The school principal assumes that the ceiling fell due to heavy rainfall.
