Green arch construction of Belgrade's Old Sava bridge will be removed on Wednesday, July 30, and after that the two pillars on which it was held until now.
The arch will be removed in one piece and transferred by barge to the construction site - the area on the left bank of the Sava between Branko bridge and position he has held since 1942, Politika published in today's edition, with a reminder that its demolition was prevented by teacher Miladin Zarić, after German mining, near the end of the Second World War.
"Sailors from the Hungarian bridge construction company 'Hidepito' are arriving, barges and ships are ready, and today preparations should be made on land before tomorrow's operation, which should begin in the morning hours. After that, the removal of two pillars will follow," university professor Danejel Kukaras, the main designer of the removal of this bridge and the construction of a new one in the same place, told Politika.
According to him, in the previous months, the remaining part of the bridge structure, which was in a much worse condition than expected, was strengthened so that it could be safely moved to the construction site.
The newspaper states that it is not yet known what will happen to the preserved parts of the Old Sava Bridge, i.e. whether it will be brought back to life as a pedestrian link between the two banks.
