If Filip Švarm is right, namely that with the announcement of special elections, Vučić is on the back foot accepted some of the citizens' demands and thereby took the initiative, what should the opposition do? In fact, the civil opposition itself (for some reason, and that reason is primarily called Miroslav Aleksić, and the People's Party is in that group) has a fairly clear path: to create and maintain a common front, to expand its activities to cities and towns from the interior.
However, it is more difficult for the citizens to draw their attention to a political legality, which at its base carries persistence and patience: miracles happen very rarely in politics, especially if the political, that is, what makes politics politics - the organization of a community for the benefit of members of that community - crushed, usurped, abused to the point of disgust for politics. Let's say, the rain on the day of Vučić's counter rally could be understood as a small miracle, a small help from above and only to the extent that it exposed the fact - for those who failed to notice it in the past ten years - that Vučić rules by force and bribery: torn between all-day harassment, concern for their health and the task of showing love for the leader, forcibly mobilized citizens they decided for their health. If it hadn't been raining, Željko Mitrović's drones would have captured an impressive picture that, from exploitation, would have come to our noses and ears. Like this, we have seen unfortunate people running away headfirst regardless of the rain and Vučić.
However, from existential concern to political awareness of that concern, that is, from running away from the rain to running away from Vučić, the path is neither quick nor easy. On the contrary. Or: Milošević first destroyed the country (on the way he also destroyed Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina), then he dropped NATO bombs on what was left of the country, only then lost the (unfree) elections, the citizens did not agree to the theft those elections, they stopped Serbia and forced him to resign on October 5. That was the order of the moves. We should not forget that on that occasion Milosevic did not lose the parliamentary elections.
This is not about the hundreds of thousands of people who occupy the streets of Belgrade for weeks as consecrated citizens, none of them will vote for Vučić. We are talking about the citizens of this country who get nothing but toxic regime propaganda, including those who are packed into buses and trains and brought to Belgrade to feign love. In order for people who wake up in the dark and go to rest in the dark - and because of this, some have decided that it is better not to wake up - to see the light of day again, it is up to the citizens of Belgrade to arm themselves with patience and show perseverance.
If the opposition, together with the citizens, does not fight for better election conditions, it will first have to decide whether it will participate in such and such elections at all. Given that the MPs of the civil opposition are really, despite the savage pressure, fighting like lions in the Parliament, the decision not to go to the elections would be very, very difficult. It is also very hard to believe that Vučić will lose the next election with everything he has in his hands. But... it is quite certain that his rule is seriously crowned and that he simply will not recover. However, non-recovery can last for years.
As we said, miracles happen rarely. This is exactly why it is necessary to arm yourself with patience and persistence. After all, a political substance has reappeared in the destroyed public space - the awareness that civic energy must be articulated in political terms. Citizen political parties and citizens' representatives serve exactly that.
