Tariffs necessary to rebalance global trade
Trump is defiant as stock markets continue to fall and recession fears grow.
The Republican president insists that his tariffs are necessary to rebalance global trade and restore domestic production. He accused other countries of "taking advantage of the good old USA!" in international trade and said that "our past 'leaders' are to blame for allowing this".
He singled out China as "the biggest bully of them all" and criticized Beijing for raising its own tariffs in retaliation.
