There is no longer any dilemma – on Terazima will be built roundabout.
This was announced at the press conference by the mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Šapić.
Šapić stated that the works in Vasina Street, Republic Square and Terazije will be completed by September 1, after which traffic will be released, reports Nova.
As he states, he stuck to this idea even when many gave up on it.
"I said at one point that we gave up on it, because there was no possibility of making a large roundabout as it was in the original plan," he said, adding that the risk was too great because of the underground passages.
Šapić claims that this particular intersection is under the "pressure of violations", and that "they simply tried to find a traffic solution that will ensure people's safety".
Citizens predicted the plan - before Šapić
The citizens were confused by the scene at Terazi, and they sensed even before Šapić's statement that there would be a roundabout in that place.
"According to this roundabout, as far as I can see - from the direction of Terazije, they will only be able to go straight. Because everyone will flow into the right blue arrow and that's it - literally as before. Otherwise, if nothing else, the news is that they will be able to turn right back to Terazije from the direction of the Terazije tunnel," one of the users jokingly commented on the X network.
Due to the execution of works in the city, there were changes in the traffic of numerous city transport lines, so the "Terazije" stop was also temporarily closed.
The construction of the bridge is proceeding according to plan
At the press conference, Šapić touched on the removal of the Old Sava Bridge and the construction of the "New Serbian Bridge", as he calls it, stressing that "everything is going according to dynamics for now".
"It really is an excellent idea to remove the Old Sava bridge and install a new one, a good thing and thank God that we persevered. I believed, as I still believe, and I am absolutely sure that in a year and a half or two, when the New Serbian bridge is located in that place, it will look great with all the roads", he explained and added that he will call it by that name, regardless of what name the City Assembly will give it.
