Students participating in the blockade Student Cultural Center (SKC) in Belgrade pointed out on Monday the problem of "non-transparency of that institution", stressing that neither the public nor to students documents that should be public by law are not available - the statute of the Student Cultural Center, the names of the members of the board of directors and the financial plan.
"When we started researching the work of the SKC, we were faced with the fact that we could not get an insight into the basic documentation about the work of the institution. Our request to the SKC administration to provide us with and enable inspection of these documents has so far remained unanswered. In addition, the data on SKC do not exist in the Agency for Economic Registers (APR) either," the students participating in the blockade of SKC stated in a statement.
According to their opinion, this is "a clear indication of improper functioning of the SKC and another reason why the blockade was started."
On February 12, a self-organized group of students occupied the SKC building, pointing out that "student cultural centers are alienated from the university" and that "there are numerous irregularities in the work of the Board of Directors."
By returning SKC to the University, "the fear of its complete privatization and disappearance would disappear, and this would enable the materialization of the initial idea of the existence of student spaces in general", announced the students after occupying the SKC building.
