Students who came from Novi Sad to Strasbourg by bicycle gathered in front of the Council of Europe, where a letter addressed to French President Emmanuel Macron was read, reports N1.
He said at the beginning that "they didn't come there because it was easy, but because it was - necessary".
"We come from a country where many people have lost faith, where justice has become a distant echo. We are not here to complain, but to remind you that hope still moves, and sometimes it moves on two wheels. We refused to give up, every turn of the pedal was a protest against fear," he said.
He also read the letter that the students will send to French President Emmanuel Macron as part of their peaceful protest.
"We are addressing you as young people who decided, due to the lack of justice and dialogue in their country, to come here by bicycle. Our mission is simple, but important. We live in a country where institutions serve the interests of a narrow circle of power, where the media is under pressure. The root of the cause lies deeper than the events in Novi Sad, that's why we are pedaling forward, carrying the message - Serbia needs the support of the EU, we are not looking for sanctions, but a hint of truth and responsibility. President, you have often emphasized the importance of European values, today you have the opportunity to show that "These values are universal. It would mean a lot, not only to us, but to the entire generation that wants to stay in the country. We are not driving to Europe to escape from Serbia, but to return it," they stated in the letter.
After that, he said that this letter, together with the letter sent to the EC, will be sent by mail tomorrow, and then he called for 16 minutes of silence for the victims in Novi Sad.
