Vice President of the Socialist Party of Serbia Branko Ruzic he assessed that - due to the state of Serbian society - he, as he stated, the majority of "justice-loving citizens of Serbia", had no place at the rally Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) which is scheduled for June 27 in Belgrade.
In his statement to FoNet, Ružić stated several factors that he considers important for the functioning of society in Serbia, including the rule of law, independence of institutions without political influence and pressure on judges and prosecutors, zero tolerance for corruption, full transparency of public procurement and spending of budget funds, effective fight against organized crime, media freedom and orderly and fair election conditions.
He cited as important the deconcentration of political power, the making of key decisions that, as he said, would not be centralized around the president, the freedom of assembly and expression of political opinion, the conduct of the police in accordance with the rules of the service, dialogue and mutual respect for political opponents, as well as the absence, as he stated, of public humiliation of political opponents.
"If all of this existed in Serbia, in that case I would say that there is a thread of statehood and I would invite members, sympathizers and voters of the SPS to respond to Ivica Dacic's call and participate in the rally in Belgrade," said Ružić.
However, he assessed that the situation in Serbian society, as he stated, is contrary to the stated value and factual criteria and that he, like the majority of citizens who think that way, has no place at that meeting.
"So for me, and for the vast majority of justice-loving citizens of Serbia, there is certainly no place there," said Ružić.
Dačić: SPS is going to a rally
On the other hand, the president of the Socialist Party of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, announced that the party, as part of the ruling coalition, will attend the meeting scheduled for June 27 in Belgrade.
Dacic stated on Instagram that the SPS, as a "state-building and politically responsible party", accepts the invitation of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and invited members, sympathizers and voters to participate in the rally, stating that they contribute to the "defense of national and state interests".
The president of the Social Democratic Party of Serbia, Rasim Ljajić, confirmed to FoNet that the local committees of that party are cooperating with the SNS committees regarding the meeting on June 27 and that their members will certainly attend the meeting.
FoNet also contacted other SNS coalition partners, including the president of the Union of Vojvodina Hungarians, Balint Pastor, and the president of the Justice and Reconciliation Party, Usama Zukorlić, but by the time the text was published, no answers had arrived.
