Although the rector of the University of Belgrade claims that the meeting with Prime Minister Đuro Macuta was more constructive than previous ones, the key demands of the academic community still do not have concrete answers. While the Government announces possible solutions, students and professors say that time is running out - the "Faculty at the Crossroads" protest is already on the streets.
Rector of the University of Belgrade Vladan Djokic and Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia Đuro Macut they held another meeting. The fourth since Macut was elected president Vlade and since the negotiations began.
The meeting was more constructive than all the previous ones, Đokić concluded.
"The Prime Minister understood what our demands were and we are trying to meet those demands," Rector Đokić said after the meeting.
Đokić told journalists in front of the Government that they discussed the compensation of material costs to faculties that have not been paid since the end of April, the request to disband the working group for the drafting of a new law on higher education, the granting of quotas for the enrollment of budget students for the new school year and the repeal of the Regulation regulating the relationship between teaching and scientific engagement.
"We discussed all the details and I expect that in the coming period we will have constructive solutions", said Đokić.
A new date for the meeting has not been agreed.
"It will not be possible to solve everything at once, but we are moving towards implementing the demands in some way and ending this school year in order to enroll a new generation of students," Djokic said.
He explained that there are no guarantees that the requests will be met, but it was discussed to make proposals when what could be implemented.
"I cannot speak on behalf of the government. I think the prime minister understood what our demands are, he is also a professor, a member of the academic community, and I hope we will find a common language," the rector emphasized.
Đokić could not answer whether the quotas for student enrollment in the budget will be given before the reimbursement of teaching at the faculties.
Previous conversations
Previous meetings was held on May 8th, and as the rector announced at the time - it ended without conclusions for overcoming the crisis.
"I don't see any big progress, because those who should decide about it are not at these meetings, they are the students," Đokić told reporters after the meeting.
Earlier, in April, two were held meeting of representatives of the university and the authorities. The second meeting was initially cancelled, since the rector of the University of Belgrade Vladan Đokić received an invitation to a hearing on the same day following the lawsuit filed by Miloš Pavlović, a representative who calls himself Students who want to learn.
While the meeting was going on in the Government, in front of it, with a 16-minute silence at 11.52:XNUMX, a protest of members of the academic community "Faculties at the Crossroads", gathered around the Rebel University initiative, began.
On Monday (June 9), the delegation of the Rebellious University initiative submitted its demands to the Government of Serbia.

Three demands were highlighted: to disband the Working Group for the drafting of the new Law on Higher Education and open a public, inclusive discussion, then to cancel the illegal changes to the Regulation on University Work Standards and remedy their consequences, as well as the adoption of budget quotas for university admissions by the end of June at the latest.
Speeches are planned at 18 p.m., and there is no confirmation as to how long the protest will last.
