The Assembly of Serbia stated resignation Prime Minister Miloš Vucevic on Wednesday, March 19. By confirming the resignation of the prime minister, the government becomes technical and the deadline of 30 days for the election of a new government expires. If it is not formed by then, extraordinary elections will follow.
The day after that, a part of the parliamentary opposition in Serbia requested the formation of a transitional government - the "Government of People's Trust".
MP Biljana Đorđević of the Green-Left Front (ZLF) told "Vreme" that it would be a temporary government with a term of nine months, which should fulfill student demands and prepare free and fair elections.
"Departments that would deal with this would be led by expert candidates for ministers, who would be proposed by opposition political parties in cooperation with broader socio-political movements and blocked universities. They would not be managed by anyone from the current government, because they could not create these conditions until now, they could not fulfill the demands, so that sector simply has to be managed by someone else in order to restore the trust that the people have lost in their own institutions, and that is why - a government of people's trust", he explains. Djordjevic.
According to the interlocutor of Vremena, the parliamentary groups of the Nada coalition, the Green-Left Front, the Freedom and Justice Party, the parliamentary group of the Movement of Free Citizens, the SDA, the People's Movement of Serbia, and Serbia Center gathered around this proposal.
"So, we called the others as well, but for their own reasons at this time they decided not to get involved in this work. We are open for everyone else to join this and to present their comments and what they think would lead them to support this proposal. We certainly invite the general public to support it or offer alternative solutions", indicates Đorđević.
The President of the People's Movement, Miroslav Aleksić, said at a press conference in the House of the National Assembly that in addition to them, the non-parliamentary organizations Kreni-promeni and Proglas also spoke about this. "So there is a broad consensus for the way we can get out of that crisis," he said.
Necessary dialogue
When asked how they plan to bring this idea closer to the citizens in the coming days, Đorđević says that a dialogue must also be established with other important actors - the professional community, Proglas, whose proposal for a government of social trust is conceptually not much different from this one.
"The more groups that have spoken out about this get closer and agree, the stronger that proposal is and it can count on wider public support. But, of course, it needs to be worked out, and there is not too much time. That is why it was brought to the public today and I believe that citizens will comment on it. We will use every opportunity we have to explain all the ambiguities in this regard," emphasizes Đorđević.
The "Vremena" interviewee concludes: "We think that this is the way in which the entire public, which is involved in various ways - through protests, blockades, strikes - can jointly seek a solution to this situation. The public is sending us a message that the government is not legitimate and this is our political solution to this socio-political crisis."
