The deputy director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Monuments, Estela Radonjić Živkov, was dismissed from that position at her personal request.
As she explained, she agrees with the dismissal considering that she does not stand behind the current policy in the Institute regarding the cancellation of the status of cultural property of the General Staff complex of the Serbian Armed Forces.
Namely, she was a guest on N1 after the BIA broke into the Institute's premises, allegedly because of a protest text by employees who oppose the termination of protection from the General Staff.
Previously, she was the director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Dubravka Đukanović in June resigned to that position after being conditioned to submit a proposal for the removal of protection from the General Staff bracket or to leave.
Apart from Estela Radonjić Živkov, four more members of the collegium submitted their resignations, but their request was rejected.
Instead of Estela Radonjić Živkov, the deputy director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments will be Branislav Orlić, who this May was the only one who did not sign the request of colleagues for the preservation of the General Staff, and five years ago the request against the construction of a gondola on Kalemegdan.
The complex of the General Staff and the former Federal Secretariat for National Defense was triple protected.
The buildings of the General Staff, which were damaged in the NATO bombing, had the status of a cultural monument, the same status as the old General Staff building with the plot on which the entire complex is located, and as a spatial-historical unit, the area along Kneza Miloša Street also enjoys protection.
The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced that on May 15, Minister Goran Vesić, on behalf of the Government of Serbia, signed a contract with the company "Affinity Global Development" on the revitalization of the complex of the former Federal Secretariat for National Defense, which is located on the corner of Knez Miloša and Minorities in the center of Belgrade.
