An attempt to cause a split in society is treason, Russian President Vladimir Putin said this morning in an extraordinary address regarding the statements of the head of the Russian mercenary army, Yevgeny Prigozhin, and added that excessive ambitions led to Russia's betrayal.
The authorities will not allow the schism to repeat itself in Russia. We will protect the people, Putin said after the rebellion of the owner of the private paramilitary group Wagner Yevgeny Prigozin. Any rebellion is a deadly threat, our response will be harsh, Putin emphasized.
The authorities of the Russian capital and its surroundings have declared an anti-terrorist state of emergency due to the armed rebellion of the leader of the Russian mercenaries, Prigozhin.
"In order to prevent possible terrorist attacks in the city and the Moscow region, a regime of counter-terrorist operations has been established," the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee announced this morning.
