United education Serbia called for a general strike and total suspension of classes on March 17, 18 and 19.
The United Education of Serbia unites informal groups of educators whose goal is support to students and joint action in education.
Aleksandar Vinić from the United Education of Serbia told "Vreme" that a large number of schools have been suspending classes continuously since January 20 and cited the example of Čačak, where all schools are suspended.
"Using this call, the United Education Association of Serbia tried to encourage other schools and teachers who have not yet been on suspension to join the suspension." "We wanted to invite members of other branches and professions and in other institutions to join the general strike together in order to contribute to the fulfillment of student demands," Vinić said.
He said that the Union of Doctors and Pharmacists of Serbia has decided to go on a legal strike, and that when it comes to schools, data is still being collected.
Speaking about the reduction in the salary of educational workers, Vunić estimated that this move caused a completely opposite effect from the one expected by the educational authorities.
"With a large number of colleagues, the reduction or non-payment of wages, specifically with us in Čačak, we who are on strike did not get anything, not only did it not sway people, but they are even more determined in what was the goal," says Vinić.
Asked how the educators could react if the second semester was abruptly interrupted like the first, and if they were prevented from finalizing grades for the end of the school year, Vinić emphasized that the educators hope that this will not happen.
"The first semester has been interrupted, the grades have practically not been concluded, but only the first semester is a cross-section of the current situation." We hope that a way will be found to end the school year properly and that there will be no extraordinary interruptions," concluded Vinić.
Help from the IT community
An informal group of IT experts invited citizens to join the "Network of Solidarity for Education" and donate aid to educators who are fighting against injustice and are facing threats, lawsuits and salary cuts.
According to the information they published, a total of 12.824.000 dinars have been networked so far, which is a sixth of the total budget of all donors. There are a total of 318 recipients and a total of 517 donors.
Anyone interested in making donations for educators can apply via the link.
"Thank you. Any help, big or small, means so much to those who need it most. We are moving on," the IT community said.
