The Committee for Culture and Information adopted on Monday (April 28) the Decision on the initiation of the procedure for proposing candidates for the election of Council members Regulatory body for electronic media (REM).
Of the 16 MPs present, 15 of them voted in favor.
Announcing a new competition for the selection of members of the Council of REM was a request of the students, in order to stop blockade of RTS buildings.
Students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) announced that the blockade of the public media service has ended after fourteen days.
A new competition for the REM Council has been announced. With that, the blockade of RTS is over, after 14 days.

The Parliamentary Committee for Culture and Information annulled earlier on Monday the previous decision on the election of REM Council members.
The mandate of the previous convocation of the REM Council expired on November 4, 2024, and a new one was not elected for almost six months.
The previous procedure for the election of new REM Council members was practically suspended, because seven of the 18 candidates withdrew their candidacy, claiming that the process was full of irregularities and illegalities.
What is the role of REM?
Regulatory body for electronic media (REM) is an autonomous and independent body established by the Law on Electronic Media. REM is practically a separate firm paid by the state, but they have their own account and are supposed to operate outside the influence of the state.
Nevertheless, the role of REM is to control the content and supervise the work of broadcasters, but also to impose measures in accordance with the Law. In the end, it can be the revocation of the license to work, that is, the frequency. It also decides on applications related to the program activities of the broadcaster.
The main role of REM is in the allocation of national frequencies to media companies. The Council also elects the Management Boards of public media services, and those boards of RTS and RTV elect Program Councils, appoint and dismiss general directors of RTS, editors-in-chief and editors-in-chief and program directors.
