The session of the municipality of Novi Beograd began on March 25 at 10 am, and the opposition left the session. Although tensions were announced, everything went peacefully

The session of the New Belgrade Municipal Assembly continued, after the opposition councilors left it, because they demanded that the leadership of the municipality be replaced, as well as Bojan Bovan, who is in a conflict of interest.

This councilor is the former president of the municipality of Novi Beograd, who became the secretary of traffic, but still attended the municipal session. While the opposition announces that it will ask the Constitutional Court to annul this session, some opposition members say that they do not trust legal instances in Serbia.

Although a blockade of the work of the session was planned, it did not happen, and the citizens dispersed.

What happened

Citizens who gathered in front of the municipality on Tuesday morning New Belgrade they said that, despite the fact that spring has already arrived according to the calendar, and despite the rainy day, it arrives today in front of the municipality of Novi Beograd.

They are worried, the N1 reporter reports, about the liquidation of the New Belgrade Sports Center, which could be a prelude to the privatization of two sports facilities - the Hall, as well as the April 11 Sports Center. They are also demanding the resignation of the municipal leadership.

The municipality assures that, in fact, the liquidation of this public company will not lead to a change in the status or ownership status of the aforementioned sports facilities, since they have always been public property of the city of Belgrade, and will continue to be so.

Branislav Jevtić, member of Kreni-Promeni in SO Novi Beograd, told N1 that the plan of the opposition members was to try to block the session.

"The plan is, we in the councilor group have agreed with the rest of the opposition councilors, to try to block the session, because there is no basis for it to take place at all. We are imaginative, we will see if we will be able to implement what we have planned," he said.

He hopes, he says, that the events will not resemble those at Zvezdara.

"First of all, because we are calm, I don't think there will be a need for the regime side to react more aggressively to us. Before the blockade, we will first propose one point, which is the presence of Bojan Bovan, if he appears, and he probably will, and then the blockade will follow," he said.

New Belgrade resident Aleksandra Pejčić, who is among those gathered in front of the Municipality of New Belgrade, told N1 that she cannot believe that sports life is being destroyed.

She points out that she hopes "all this will be postponed".

"For justice to be served. I grew up in New Belgrade, I know how April 11 was built, that April 11 had a system that if Belgrade ran out of water, it could purify water for all of Belgrade. I trained at the Sports Hall. New Belgrade, as one of the richest municipalities, I can't believe that sports life is being destroyed, that someone is pocketing it," she said.

Scenario from Zvezdara

Just a day before, it was also organized blockade of the municipality of Zvezdara, when opposition councilors and citizens broke into the municipality building. Then there was a scuffle with private security, and the police also intervened. The session started at 10 a.m. and ended quickly.

It was tense at Zvezdara the previous day as well. SNS activists set up promotional stands on Đermo on Sunday morning. They were surrounded by citizens chanting: "Zvezdara won't want you" and "Pack up". Five hours later, the eggs flew - from both sides.
