President of the Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic sent a letter to the heads of delegations of members and associated members in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and pointed out that granting the status of an associated member to the Assembly would Kosova represented a reward for Pristina, which continuously carries out violence against Serbs, obstructs dialogue and does not fulfill its obligations from Brussels.
The letter draws attention to the pervasive violence and open systemic, systematic and continuous discrimination against Serbs in Kosovo and points out that impunity for mass ethnically motivated attacks on Serbs and non-Albanian population, the Serbian Orthodox Church and property has become "a common and implied way of life in the area." of Kosovo and Metohija", it was announced from the Assembly of Serbia.
Branbić stated that Pristina's ethnically motivated attacks on the Serbian civilian population and property, as well as the deliberate creation of unbearable living conditions for the Serbs and non-Albanian population in the past year alone, resulted in more than 15 percent of the Serbian population leaving Kosovo and Metohija.
In addition, the entire international community is more than well aware of the shameful fact that for more than 11 years Pristina has refused to form the Union of Serbian Municipalities, the letter adds.
It is reminded that not only is Kosovo not a member of the United Nations, but most of the UN member states do not recognize Kosovo, including member states of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
In the letter, it was pointed out that granting associate status to the Assembly of Kosovo would unquestionably represent awarding "the above-mentioned behavior of Pristina, which is doing everything in its power to obstruct the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and not to fulfill its obligations from the Brussels Agreement, and as NATO knows best and Kfor, which is present on the territory of Kosovo and Metohija".
Ana Brnabić, members of the delegation of the Serbian Parliament to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Nataša Jovanović, Goran Rakić and Zoran Dragišić, delivered the letter to the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Malahat Ibrahimgizi.
On that occasion, Azerbaijan's firm support for Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity was emphasized, and Ibrahimgizi pointed out that the Azerbaijani delegation strongly opposes the improvement of the status of the Assembly of Kosovo and that such a move would represent a very dangerous precedent for all other similar cases.
She pointed out that the Azerbaijani delegation will represent this position among other members of this organization and will provide strong support to the efforts of the Serbian delegation to point out this dangerous precedent within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, it was stated in the announcement.
