Patriarch Porfirije will pray every day until Sunday, June 4, "for blessed peace among people", announced the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The prayer service will be held every day at 18 p.m. "in the church of Saint Sava in Vračar in front of the relics of Saint Bishop Nikolay Srpski," until Sunday, June 4, "when the Church celebrates the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles."
In the press release of the Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church, it is stated that Patriarch Porfirije called "all faithful people to multiply their prayers for peace in Kosovo and Metohija".
The situation in four municipalities in the North of Kosovo has been tense since Friday, when officials of Albanian nationality elected in elections in which Serbs did not participate came to the local self-government buildings to take office. In Zubina Potok, Zvečan and Leposavic, the new mayors were sworn in on May 25, while in North Mitrovica the swearing-in ceremony was held last week.
The situation further escalated yesterday when there was a conflict in Zvečan between citizens who protested in front of the municipal administration and members of KFOR.
On that occasion, at least 50 Serbs were injured, while KFOR announced that 30 of their members were injured.
Four Serbs were arrested, two of whom were released.
The situation is calm today, and a new gathering of citizens has been announced for tomorrow morning.
