Director and professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) in Belgrade Janko Baljak he resigned from all positions in the bodies in which he was engaged as a professor at FDU, after his appointment Suzana Vasiljević for a member of the FDU Council.
Suzana Vasiljević is media advisor to the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. She studied journalism and German studies in Berlin and film and television camera at FDU. She is a member of the supervisory boards of "Air Serbia" and "Politika", the Board of Directors Belgrade Philharmonic and the Coordinating Body of the Working Group for Media Strategy Development. He has been working for Aleksandar Vučić since June 2012.
Janko Baljak resigned as a member of the Senate of the University of the Arts and as a member of the FDU Art Council because, as he wrote on his FB profile, he considers the election of Suzana Vasiljević "a continuation of the disastrous disciplining of cultural institutions in the last decade, an affirmation of censorship and self-censorship in education future generations of artists. Everything that Suzana Vasiljević does, I teach my students that it is bad, destructive and that we, as a team of talented and motivated people, can and must do better."
FDU Dean Miloš Pavlović believes that Suzana Vasiljević will represent the interests of FDU in the Government, because she is a graduate of that faculty, so I think that the goals of the Government are the same as the goals of FDU: improving the quality of education in the field of art.
"Dean Miloš Pavlović protects the interests of the faculty, he is a pragmatic man, so his statement like this is understandable," says professor Janko Baljak for "Vreme" and adds that he is surprised "where does the government's interest in our faculty council come from all of a sudden".
Although the Council is the highest decision-making body of each faculty, until now the Government did not seem to be interested in delegating a representative to FDU. "That's why it happened that sometimes we don't even have a quorum and we can't make some important decisions," says Baljak.
The FDU council has 21 members: 12 faculty representatives, three student representatives and six members appointed by the Government of Serbia as representatives of the founders. This June, the Government appointed five members: Ivan Karl, Jugoslav Pantelić, Miloš Latinović, Sonja Mihajlov and Tamara Vučković Manojlović.
Suzana Vasiljević is a new member of the FDU Council, appointed at the meeting of the Government of Serbia on December 2. At that same session, the resignation of Tamara Vučković Manojlović, which she submitted due to her obligations as director of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, was accepted. The director also resigned Bitef theater Miloš Latinović due to procedural reasons.
Baljak told "Vreme" that he was surprised by the great support of people for his decision to leave all the bodies in which he was engaged as a professor at FDU.
"This is a personal act, I have nothing to risk," says Baljak and adds that "there is no information about whether any of his colleagues will react in the same way as him on the occasion of the appointment of Suzana Vasiljević."
