Investment Development Manager AD "Iinfrastructure of the Railways of Serbia"Slobodanka Katanić, president of the Commission for Technical Review Milutin Savović and member of that Commission Biljana Krstić, against whom the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade brought charges of corruption in the case the roof of the railway station in Novi Sad falls, were released to defend themselves from freedom, the Nova.rs portal announced.
The Appellate Court in Belgrade canceled their detention.
Slobodanka Katanić's ban on leaving her apartment, i.e. house arrest, was lifted. The detention of the others was terminated and they were released, according to nova.rs.
As a reminder, the Special Anti-Corruption Department of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade brought charges against Slobodanka Katanić, investment development manager of JSC "Infrastruktur Železnica Srbije" based in Belgrade, as well as the president of the Commission for Technical Inspection of the Railway Station in Novi Sad, Milutin S. and member of that Commission Biljana K, in connection with the execution of several criminal acts with a corrupt element, which resulted in the fall of the canopy at the Railway Station on November 1. 2024, in which 16 people died and two were seriously injured.
The indictment charges Slobodanka Katanić with the criminal offense of Abuse of Official Position and the criminal offense of Serious Offense against General Security.
Milutin Savić and Biljana Krstić are charged by the indictment with the criminal offense of Unconscionable work in the service and the criminal offense of Serious crime against general security.
On the same day when the Appellate Court lifted their detention, the High Court in Belgrade, which on April 17, 2025 issued a decision confirming the indictment for three suspects, stated in a written response to "Vreme" that the decision confirming the indictment has not yet become legally binding, bearing in mind that appeals have been filed against it and that the same will be subject to the Court of Appeal in Belgrade for legal remedy.
"Therefore, the indictment has not yet entered into legal force, which is why the trial has not yet been scheduled, and everything is in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure," according to the answer of the High Court in Belgrade.
This investigation caused a lot of public controversy because it was the third in a row to be opened in the case of the falling canopy.
It is also interesting that the indictment was filed only seven days after the initiation of the investigation, as well as after the Supreme Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac ordered Nenad Stefanović to forward the case to JTOK.
