Private security hired by the government clashed with citizens who had gathered in front of the Belgrade Assembly, who were protesting the holding of the session. After the end of the session, strong police forces surrounded the building of the Assembly of Belgrade, and they detained four people and put them in the police station.
Four activists from the Initiative "The Bridge Remains" - Dejan Atanacković, Nebojša Petrović, Dušan Janković and Ilija Vučević - and member of the Association "Protect Blok 4" Srđan Marković were detained.
Activists will be held in custody for 48 hours, and they will be charged with the criminal offense of violent behavior at a public meeting, the Initiative "The Bridge Remains" announced.
The announcement states that they will be heard at the High Public Prosecutor's Office on Friday (March 7) at 11 a.m., which is why the Initiative calls on all citizens to gather in large numbers in front of the Prosecutor's Office on Savska Street on Friday as a sign of support.
"After four months of day and night fighting for the bridge, your support for our Dejan, Ilija, Nebojša, Dulet and Srđan means to us", they said from the Most Remains initiative.
Citizens and politicians gathered in front of the Belgrade City Assembly threw eggs and red paint at the building, and at one point, a few tried to remove the protective fence, after which there was a reaction from security and a fight.
The assembly adopted a number of urban planning decisions, decisions on the statutes of certain local companies, approved money for the purchase of new GSP vehicles, and consent was given to the termination of the contract with the Strela road transport company.
Session Belgrade Assembly it started with metal fences surrounding the building and a large number of security personnel both outside the building and inside the building itself. When the session was supposed to officially start, the opposition councilors came out in front of the chairman's bench with Serbian flags and started continuously loudly broadcasting and singing the national anthem. The plan was to prevent work in the Assembly of Belgrade in this way, while avoiding any violence.
At the same time, the councilors of the government were sitting in the benches, but they were not disturbed by the singing of the national anthem, so at the call of the chairman, they voted for the session's agenda by raising their hands.
Representatives of the private security company "Atlas" were present in the hall.
Security measures have been increased at the entrance to the City Assembly, and a protest is being held in front of it at the invitation of the initiative "The Bridge Remains".
The citizens who gathered in front of the Belgrade Assembly tried to remove the fence in front of the building, and the security guards flew over the fence and a fight started.
It appears that someone sprayed the security guard with either pepper spray or tear gas.
The mayor is waiting to be arrested
Mila Popović, the president of the Belgrade committee of the Freedom and Justice Party and councilor Mila Popović, told "Vreme" that before the beginning of the session of the Belgrade Assembly, the SSP brought a "fake mayor's roundabout" in front of the building and stopped traffic in front of the Belgrade Assembly in order to send a message to the mayor Aleksandar Šapić that he should enter that roundabout, turn around, exit at exit 3 and never come back, i.e. to stop harassing the citizens of Belgrade and destroying the city.
"Aleksandar Šapić is not worthy to be mayor, we have all known that for a long time, and in the past few months we have seen that he has completely lost his mind, which is not surprising, because it is an open secret that he sleeps very badly and that every morning he expects to hear police sirens in front of his illegally built villa," says Popović.
"He himself does not know why they can take him away, especially after the arrest of the Stajić brothers and after the conviction of the head of his cabinet, Nenad Milanović."
