Anniversary of the RTS bombing: Students in the blockade call for no noise
The anniversary of the death of the RTS worker will be marked at the blockade of the Public Service, but in peace and quiet, the students warn
The announcement that the arrest of opposition leaders is being prepared was published by the Freedom and Justice Party. What do the opposition leaders say to that? Whether and what actions the opposition is preparing for the big protest that was announced on Saturday
Freedom and Justice Party she announced that the president of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić preparation arrest Marinike Tepić, Dragan Đilas, Zdravko Ponoš and Miloš Jovanović, as well as other opposition leaders, under false accusations of terrorism and overthrowing the constitutional order.
The leader of the Serbia Center, Zdravko Ponoš, told "Vreme" that he read the news about the preparation of his arrest this morning, but he does not think that this is a reason for nervousness. "I think there are much more important things that deserve our attention." "Every blister of these children marching towards Belgrade in the rain and storm deserves more attention than these announcements of the regime they are trying to draw attention to," says Ponoš.
He adds that the government is probably trying to instill nervousness in the opposition in the same way that it demonstrates force with the camp in Pionirski Park in order to discourage the participants of the protest.
"If Vučić wants this matter to come to an end in a peaceful way, the best thing he can do is to disband his camp where he gathered the best he has," Ponoš emphasizes.
The co-president of the Green-Left Front, Radomir Lazović, told Vreme that the ZLF had no knowledge of the arrests, but that he would not be surprised if something like that was being prepared.
On the other hand, he states, he does not see why someone who is from the ZLF could be suspected or what he could be arrested for.
If it has anything to do with last week's events in the Serbian Parliament, he reminds that they also announced then that if they were invited for an interview or similar, they would be available to all judicial authorities.
What is the opposition planning on Saturday?
In Belgrade, students announced a large protest on February 15. The question arises whether the opposition is planning any actions then.
Ponoš says that even if they plan, he would not talk about it publicly. He adds that he will be with the citizens, as before. "As a party, we called the regime to account for disbanding that camp (in Pionirski Park), which is clearly serving as a red scarf with the idea of provoking conflicts."
President of Serbia Aleksadnar Vučić on Thursday evening he met with representatives of the students who are in Pionirski Park and asked them to go home on Saturday from Pionirski Park and to return the day after.
Lazović says that the ZLF is not planning any special actions and that they are of the opinion that they should not, but that they should simply, in the way the organizer envisioned, participate peacefully and dignified in the protest.
"We provided a legal team, which normally defends educators and citizens free of charge." We are defending 150 of them from the pressures of the regime. So even now we have provided a legal team, we have provided several safe locations that citizens can use in case they need them. Also, for 'God forbid', we have provided several medical teams that will be available to citizens. We will do our best to contribute to this peaceful gathering," explains the ZLF co-president.
And he adds that they will announce safe locations on their pages.
Vučić: "Violence is inevitable"
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that the most serious crimes against the Republic of Serbia will be committed on Saturday, and that it will not be possible to avoid this violence because plans have already been made.
Ponoš concludes that the fact that Vučić said that violence is inevitable means that it is inevitable in his head. "If there is one, he has decided that it will be inevitable, but I do not rule out the possibility that he is trying to announce violence and threaten to reduce the number of participants in the meeting." That is not possible, the children who set off on foot for Belgrade, who have been walking for days, they are not afraid of anything, they will surely come to Belgrade no matter what he threatens," says the leader of the Serbia Center.
Lazović says that he does not know why the president is dealing with it, and that he is more interested in what Ivica Dacić, as the Minister of Police, has to say on this topic. "Therefore, we do not call for any violence." Whenever the students organized protests, it went without any problems, they even left the streets cleaner than they found them when they came to the protests. I expect it to be that simple now too," concludes Lazović.
