"Theme" energetic security was a taboo in Serbia for a long time, it was not questioned Russian energy monopoly and other partnerships were not actively sought," said the director of the Center for Strategic Analysis (CZSA), Darko Obradović.
He stated at the conference "Energy Security - Challenges and Perspectives" organized by the CZSA that the organization identified 12 key recommendations and conclusions that
provide answers to solve the problem of energy stability.
"The most important recommendations concern the need to eliminate Russian ownership in NIS, raise the energy security index, strengthen energy partnerships and attract new investments, as well as respect the green transition that offers new sources of growth for Serbia," said Obradović.
He pointed out that the Oil Industry of Serbia accounts for seven percent of Serbia's GDP and that for these reasons it is important to solve the problem of Russian ownership based on Serbia's commercial interests.
"Serbia cannot influence geopolitical risks, but it can make decisions to reduce them through the selection of reliable partners," Obradović concluded.
Official Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Stefan Srbljanović, pointed out that Serbia has invested a lot in the energy sector and that harmonization with the adopted strategies is forthcoming.
He mentioned the strategic projects of the gas pipeline with Hungary as well as the Bistrica and Đerdap 3 hydropower plants.
"Regarding the gas pipeline, Serbia has signed memoranda with Romania and North Macedonia, which create the preconditions for the formation of the Trans-Balkan corridor, we have years of investment in the energy sector ahead of us, in order to prepare for the future, we will act strategically," said Srbljanović.
Professor Ilija Životć from the Faculty of Engineering Management emphasized that there is no national security without energy security.
He appealed for the harmonization of strategic documents and stated that he believes that the backbone of the future national security strategy will be energy security.
"The number of tanks and rockets is not important if you don't have energy sources," Životić is clear.
