Journalist associations condemned the dismissal of journalist Marija Šehić and accused the management of "Juronjuz" of collapsing professional standards, concealing information and ignoring the union's demands.
In a joint statement signed by UNS, NUNS, NDNV, ANEM, AOM, Local Press, the Media Association, the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation and the trade union GS KUM Nezavisnost, the most influential journalist and media associations in Serbia again sharply criticized the management of Juronujz Serbia for, as they state, unjustified dismissal of journalist Marija Šehić, but also because atmosphere of censorship, pressure and prohibiting journalists from doing their work freely.
"The management of this media, in which the way of working has changed drastically to the detriment of professionalism, since the appointment of Minja Miletić, Dragana Pejović and others to leading editorial positions both on television and on the portal, has now attacked the journalist and media associations and the trade union because we stood by the journalist Marija Šehić, who received a shameful and groundless dismissal from 'Juronjuz', which was only confirmed by the latest press release of this house. In addition, the allegations of censorship, the management the ban on asking questions and the harassment of Euronews journalists were not invented by the associations, but numerous journalists of this newsroom complained about it to the associations," reads the statement signed by the journalist associations.
As it is pointed out, additional concern is caused by the fact that the management of Juronnews tried to discredit the reactions of the association by claiming that their goal is to cause damage to Telekom Srbija, which co-owns "Juronnews" Serbia.
The associations reject such claims and say that the reason for their statement is solely professional solidarity with their colleague and concern for the situation in the media.
