New proceedings against Mali due to suspicion of plagiarism

The Committee for Professional Ethics of the University of Belgrade (UB) has initiated a new procedure to determine non-academic behavior against the Minister of Finance, Sinisa Malog, due to the suspicion that he plagiarized his doctoral dissertation, writes Danas.

"At the session held on November 17, and based on the orderly proposal of the rector of the University of Belgrade, the Board for Professional Ethics made a decision to initiate the procedure, which will be delivered to the opposing party together with the proposal," it was stated in the UB's answer to Danas' question in which is currently in the process of proceeding against Malog.

As Danas writes, the procedure is now conducted according to the Rules of Procedure of the Board for Professional Ethics from 2007, due to the fact that the initial request for review of allegations of plagiarism by Sinisa Malog was submitted in 2014.

In the procedure that was annulled by the judgment of the Administrative Court, the Rulebook on determining non-academic behavior in the preparation of written papers, adopted in 2016, was applied, which the Constitutional Court interpreted as unconstitutional due to the prohibition of retroactivity.

"The Board's decision will be made within a reasonable period of time, while respecting the principles prescribed by law," answered the University of Belgrade to Danas' question when the board can be expected to finish its work.
